12:51 Kim Welcome!
12:51 evelyn hi kim
12:52 evelyn I sent you the latest email from roots on the rails
12:53 Kim Yes I see it. That’s great you are on the mailing list!
12:54 evelyn I’ve been thinking about it for a long time ever since I heard about it on NPR
12:55 Kim Yes I am certain something like this will be feasible for us. Just a matter of the scale and how many trains etc.
12:55 evelyn it’s the $ and the time
12:55 Kim yes
12:56 evelyn I bought a trans canada rail guide
12:56 Server greg (~fam@71.194.203.247) has joined the channel
12:56 Kim That’s great. It is a very romantic nostalgic and enjoyable way to travel!
12:56 Kim hi
12:56 evelyn it’s pretty interesting, haven’t had time to really read it
12:56 greg hey
12:56 evelyn hi greg
12:56 Kim hello greg
12:57 Kim Hope you can come.

01:00 greg I think I will be out of school by then. if we dont come it will probably be because of work

01:02 Kim HI!
01:03 chanson Hello
01:03 evelyn hi chanson
01:03 Kim Welcome Christine!
01:03 chanson Hello hello…glad to be back after a 2 week absence.
01:03 Kim Christine is our administrator financial person grant getter person!
01:03 Kim Sorry I had a more elaborate intro for you the first time! Lol!
01:03 greg hello
01:04 parky Howdy all. Just trying to bring in the football game on another screen. But I be here now.
01:04 chanson It’s Ok….people will get used to me…and then…the mystique will wear off. It’s to be expected ; )
01:04 Kim Uh huh!
01:04 Kim The $145 registration fee will include all events including the July 26 concert at the Winspear, but for the Thursday Friday and Sunday events where things are going on simultaneously fans will need to pick at least 6 weeks ahead of time what they are doing. This is no different than in the past where times for tours were picked ahead of time etc. There will be considerably more organized activities, tours, and shows than in past events.
01:05 Kim The artists from Saturday night will also be performing Friday playing other Cohen songs different from the ones they are doing Saturday and their own material. At least four simultaneous venues will be involved including the hospitality suite. Many events will be only for fans and there will be special front of house seating for the fans at the Winspear for the July 26th show.
01:05 Kim The local price for the tickets for Saturday the 26th at the Winspear for those not registered for the Cohen event will be around $80. For a comparable concert One Night Live - Bryan Adams, Josh Groban, Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden Air Canada Centre , Toronto, ON Thu, Feb 28, 2008 07:00 PM the lowest ticket price on ticketmaster is $89.
01:05 Kim Enough pastings for now! Lol!
01:07 Kim We are planning lots of surprising unique features for the event. It is going to be tons of fun!
01:07 Kim We are planning lots of surprising unique features for the event. It is going to be tons of fun!
01:07 Kim Technical difficulties! Hrmph! Lol!
01:07 greg we forgive you
01:08 Kim Evelyn is researching the festival train stuff. has made good progress.
01:08 chanson Yes…and there is a performance art piece we are bringing together. More details to come….
01:08 evelyn that last line was worth repeating kim
01:08 Kim OK!
01:08 Kim With Jann’s participation lots of other good things have come to us. A local company that provides back stage hospitality for visiting high profile performers is offering their services for free which means that Tori Sheldon and our other volunteers will have less onerous work looking after the needs of individual performers and will probably have contact with more than one artist. Also planing special lighting and stage set effects, it will be a truly memorable event!
01:09 Kim In February we will be seeking a fan volunteer to coordinate the fan writing section of the program booklet in cooperation with a volunteer from the Poetry Festival community locally. We will have the event bag design and have figured out most of the content registrants will be receiving in February.
01:09 chanson We also have comfirmation that the festival will be shot by a film production company, and turned into a documentary.
01:11 Kim The press release on Valintine
01:11 Kim Valentine’s Day should be lots of fun!
01:12 parky All that is terrific, Kim; well done. On another note — what if anything do we know about the coming LC tour? Is Edmonton part of the itinerary — at any point, not just late July, when actually I guess he’ll be in Europe.
01:12 Kim wondering if Leonard’s tour info will also be released that day, kind of a natural! Lol!
01:12 parky oof
01:12 Kim More details in February. Maybe will begin in Montreal, otherdetails not know now.
01:13 Server dar (~globe2ste@74-33-11-155.dsl1.kgm.az.frontiernet.net) has joined the channel
01:13 Kim I don’t know about Edmonton.
01:13 evelyn hi dar
01:13 Kim Hi !
01:13 greg hi dar!
01:13 dar Greetings all
01:13 parky Hey dar; great to see ya.
01:13 Kim Dar I will paste the pastings here in private window the stuff the others already have.
01:13 parky Another pedestrian question: When is the early bird cutoff for registration?
01:14 Kim Not anytime soon.
01:14 dar Same here Mr. Parky. I hope to finally give you that article I owe you in Edmonton…it could a bit out of date but better late than…
01:14 Kim You will have to decide on what you are going to about 6 weeks before.
01:14 parky Good. I have been thinking about nothing else for five years.
01:14 Server Tori (~jirc@S01060013109fdd3e.ed.shawcable.net) has joined the channel
01:14 Kim Hi!
01:14 dar I knew you were holding your breath.
01:14 evelyn hi tori
01:14 Kim OK I will repaste in main window.

01:16 Kim We are planning lots of surprising unique features for the event. It is going to be tons of fun!
01:16 Kim With Jann’s participation lots of other good things have come to us.
01:16 parky And it’s $145 whether you register tmoro or say at the end of May?
01:16 Kim In February we will be seeking a fan volunteer to coordinate the fan writing section of the program booklet in cooperation with a volunteer from the Poetry Festival community locally. We will have the event bag design and have figured out most of the content registrants will be receiving in February.
01:16 Kim Yes same price.
01:16 parky finest kind.
01:17 dar You said there will be several musical events occurring at the same time Kim?
01:17 Kim On the Friday night yes.
01:17 Tori sounds good!
01:17 Kim One venue with local artists Ann Vriend and Carla Anderson, another with Roddy Hart etc.
01:17 dar Damn. I hate having to make decisions. I will have to choose?
01:17 Kim Four venues.
01:18 Kim You might choose to stay at hospitality suite that will be one of the venues.
01:18 evelyn The festival train - will we be able to get a break on the fare?
01:18 Kim We have really unique sound and video presentation there later that night.
01:18 Kim Yes I think we will subsidize the train.
01:18 Kim etc.
01:19 Kim So a break from Via Rail and subsidy beyond.
01:19 evelyn good:-)
01:19 dar I still need to contact Lila to be “assigned” a shift in the hospitality suite. But Friday night will be the only time we will have to “miss” some performances. Depending on who we choose. Can we “jump” from venue to venue to get a taste of each show?
01:19 Kim I think we want to encourage people to use that train, make it easy financially.
01:19 parky Ev, the train is Van to Edm, right?
01:20 Kim Yes you can jump.
01:20 evelyn not sure yet
01:20 dar ok. thanks kim.
01:20 Kim Could be one from East and one from West.
01:20 parky Wow. that would be impressive organizing — two trains.
01:20 dar I am looking into going up to Vancouver from Sacramento. My daughter is graduating from college. When will we have details on the train? Evelyn is coordinating that?
01:21 Kim We have impressive infrastructure,, you are talking with an important part of it Christine and Tori!
01:21 evelyn yes, just getting started
01:21 Kim And Evelyn!
01:22 dar Since I’m in the desert Southwest I was hoping to be able to kind of go straight up north and then across. Good to hear there may be train trip involving both directions.
01:22 evelyn the next few weeks I have a lot of time off work, I intend to make some progress on the planning
01:22 Kim That’
01:22 Kim s great evelyn!
01:22 Kim Pardon my typos!
01:22 dar I have subscribed to the feed on the website. Will you have info posted there ev?
01:22 parky Here’s another variable for train planning: Does Via have wireless Internet avbl now? They were experimenting with it Mtl-Tto, and I gather it worked well.
01:23 Kim I think they do.
01:23 Kim So you can chat as you travel!
01:23 evelyn we have some great fan musicians, it makes more sense to have tham together on one train
01:23 evelyn them
01:23 parky And kekep up with your altra imortant e-mail
01:23 Kim We will find out about that.
01:23 dar I’m obviously pestering because I’m cheap and if I can save money somehow, well I want to know.
01:23 Kim Yes that’s right! Not missing a beat! Lol!
01:24 dar But I would think that most international fans will be coming into JFK. Hence, only East to West route associated with Festival Express?
01:24 evelyn I’m also thiking of ones who don’t have a lot to spend
01:24 evelyn thinking
01:24 dar thanks ev. Count me in that bunch of ones.
01:25 evelyn how long a ride is it from east to west?
01:25 parky Toronto to Edm wud be three full days.,
01:25 dar Pretty short I would think. That’s why I doubt it is worth even looking into Ev. Not much of a festival for that short hop.
01:26 parky Van to Edm would be overnight
01:26 dar But, I can sing to myself and be festive. No problem.
01:26 evelyn quicker over the rockies I suppose
01:26 dar Didn’t hurt to ask though. Never know if there are some folks swimming upstream.
01:27 evelyn but then you get to see the rockies
01:27 Kim Would be fun and an experience from either direction!
01:27 evelyn yes
01:28 dar I guess alot of us are kind of “on-hold” until details of LC’s tour come out. Won’t be long.
01:28 Kim I am away next Sunday at a meeting at Banff New Media Center so next chat here is in two weeks. Feb. 3rd. I am attending Story, Character and Interactivity Workshop.
01:28 Kim Yup!
01:28 evelyn yes, we wouldn’t want to miss that!
01:28 parky Surprised to see myself saying this, but I’d get on board in Toronto myself if we had enough of a crowd. Used to travel between Toronto and the Lakehead by train regularlly in the 60s. Great way to go.
01:28 parky OTOH, planes are fast and these days awfully cheap.
01:28 Kim Yes there is romance, nostalgia, and good fellowship!
01:29 Kim Yes true.
01:29 evelyn I would too, I can catch the rockies later, they aren’t going anywhere
01:29 parky I dunno Ev. Global warming and all that. Tehy might melt on you.
01:29 dar No romance on any train trips I’ve taken. Usually “cheap seats” and best entertainment was the intoxicated person next to me. O, wait, that could be Festival Express. ha
01:29 evelyn just the snow, no the rock:-)
01:30 evelyn lol!
01:30 Kim People will vary in the degree to which they want to emulate Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead! Lol!
01:31 parky We could put that DVD on a permanent loop in someone’s laptop for the entire trip.
01:31 Kim We could indeed!
01:31 dar Parky sounds techie. Geez, I thought you were senile by now Parkman. ha
01:32 Kim I thin lots of performers would be interested in the train trip, long tradition of that Roots on the Rails etc.
01:32 parky The prospect of romance on the train is turning me into a new man.
01:32 Kim Well good! We welcome that rebirth! Lol!
01:32 dar hehe. O, I’m sorry I’m bad with names. But who here is part of your local organizing team Kim? Tori?
01:33 Kim Tori and chanson
01:33 dar Well great Parky. I would like to meet a new man vs. an old man. ha
01:34 parky Doin my best.
01:34 Kim And evelyn and dar are doing lots remotely.
01:34 dar So chanson is a performer. Notice I speak French.
01:34 Kim She plays piano and organ.
01:34 Kim Christine Hanson.
01:35 chanson Hi - tis me.
01:35 dar hi christine and tori. You guys are doing great work. Sorry those of us too far away can’t be much help. But we’re watching you.
01:35 Kim I think it is a play on words a bit her Email address, nice!
01:35 dar well, duh, Kim.
01:35 Kim Uh huh! Lol!
01:35 chanson Your feedback is tremendous help. More brains are better than one.
01:36 dar Speaking of “duh” will there be something like that, what was it, treasure hunt?, at your event. I didn’t participate in that but I think it was fun?
01:36 Kim Yes the delegation is going really well.
01:36 Kim I think so.
01:36 chanson And there is all sorts of work that is done electronicall (most of it I would estimate) so don’t feel that your participation is necessarily limited.
01:36 dar Or bar hopping thing or poker run. Maybe Parky will park me on the back of his bike?
01:37 evelyn it would be fun to do a treasure hunt in a strange city
01:37 Kim Yes this town is good size for treasure hunt, we will research that.
01:38 dar Seriously, will there be some sort of “club” tour or something like that. I always need to check out the local watering holes. But the event is going to have so much going on, probably don’t really need a “night out” event.
01:39 Kim Christine Peter and I meet face to face on the 1st of February two days before next chat here. Peter North watches football on Sunday afternoons. So not likely we will get him here!
01:39 dar You are scheduling some great activities. What’s the “picnic” part?
01:39 parky The “clubbing” could and likely will extend to places like Calgary and Banff, Dar.
01:39 Kim Riverbank picnic with food etc. near boat launch site . Tori is running that.
01:40 evelyn I would be interested in that
01:40 dar Aren’t those really far away? I actually want to try to make it to all event events. How would I say that. Anyway, I missed out on quite a few of the events in NYC. Trying to check out Manhattan in “off” hours. Won’t do that this time.
01:40 Kim It is a very nice area, will be lots of fun good way.
01:40 Kim Banff is 5 hour drive.
01:40 Kim Calgary is 3 hour drive.
01:41 dar O, no Banff for me. Edmonton will be more than enough. I’m even worried about making it to parts of the event on time.
01:41 parky Calgary is three hours south, Banff an hour west of that. And Cummer and I, both former Albertans, will be on hand to advise and support.
01:41 chanson I think clubbing aross Alberta would be a bit out of range.
01:41 evelyn hmm, may have to stay a little longer to see those cities
01:41 Kim Lots to do right here in the city!
01:41 Kim Although we are providing information on province wide tours etc.
01:42 dar It certainly sounds like Edmonton is a vibrant place. And is the Poetry Festival going on at the same time as the Edmonton gathering?
01:42 chanson Would anybody be interested in me creating a document that included a comprehensive map, websites amd approximate walking distance of interesting pubs in Edmonton?
01:42 Kim We will have a special section just for event on the Travel Alberta website. In next few days.
01:42 dar thanks kim.
01:42 evelyn I would be, although I’ll probably get a guide book
01:42 parky Must say that I wouldn’t expect to give Calgary a miss if I’ve gone to the trouble of going from Ottawa to Edmonton. Maybe before, maybe after, maybe even a bit during. But Calgary still rocks.
01:43 dar For some reason I am having problems keeping up with Edmonton info. How many places on-line should we be checking for updates? Is there more than one?
01:44 dar And what is the weather like in July? Warm and sunny? Certainly not 120F like here at my desert digs.
01:44 Kim Two, Pawel and Lila are sort of in friendly competition, not a bad thing.
01:44 Kim cohenites.blogspot.com and leonardcohenevent.info
01:44 Kim Weather perfect in July!
01:46 Kim There also is a front end on leonardcohenfiles.com and leonardcohennights.org that will point to those sites.
01:46 dar See. That confuses me. What the heck is a front end?
01:47 Kim The logo of event etc. basic info about it, then link to the more detailed sites.
01:47 Server Anne has quit IRC (Ping timeout)
01:47 dar grrrr. Ok.
01:47 Kim Like has always existed.
01:48 evelyn so much to think about!
01:48 Kim The competition is not bad, wne somethign new happens there is sort of a race among Lila and Pawel to get it up first, Pawel’s site is more factual, Lila’s more advice etc.
01:48 dar I’m good for about “one click” and that’s it. Multitasking and multiple links just leave me dizzy. But, thanks, I’m getting a better understanding of where to get info.
01:50 Kim We have a PR company involved things will be more coordinated from Feb. 15th on when we announce Jann Arden, and there will be a lot of media coverage from that point onward.
01:50 dar Pawel’s site is the event registration page, right?
01:50 Kim It will be impossible not to hear about event at that point! Lol!
01:50 Kim Yes it is.
01:51 evelyn good, then maybe the registration will pick up speed
01:51 Kim Yes once we announce and Leonard’s tour specifics are known.
01:51 dar I think registration will pick up once we know about the tour. I’m sure alot of international fans and others are just waiting to see about venues and dates for LC.
01:52 Kim Yup I am sure of that.
01:52 dar That LC should have played Edmonton. Would have made things alot easier for all of us. hehe
01:52 dar Wait…should play.
01:52 Kim Well he has played here on all his other tours of Canada.
01:53 dar I didn’t know that Kim.

01:54 evelyn I’m hoping it’s Montreal - that’s an easy trip for me:-)
01:54 Kim at 1:42
01:55 Kim You lost connection then.
01:55 dar Tori should be thinking of nothing but The Edmonton Event! Exams…fugget about ‘em.
01:55 Kim No not true.
01:55 dar that’s a joke tori.
01:55 Kim She lives a balanced life!
01:56 dar ok. I’ll let her slide.
01:56 Kim So another chat here in two weeks. I am away next Sunday.
01:56 Kim Any other questions etc.?
01:56 parky See y’all then.
01:56 evelyn ok, see you then
01:56 dar Sure Kim. Have a good writing workshop.
01:57 Kim Thanks for coming Parky!
01:57 Kim Thanks!

02:05 Kim Yes we should be very honored to have gotten such a nice invite, large venue though! So lots of others also so honored! Lol!

02:06 dar geez, everyone is still here. I figured we were supposed to log out of the Edmonton discussion and then log back into the usual normal food weather chat. hehe
