01:19 tony hello everyone
01:19 Kim Hi tony.
01:19 tony hello KIm
01:19 Kim Hi! The big news is the inclusion of Triple ARIA Award Winning Monsieur Camembert - Famous Blue Cheese in the Edmonton event:
01:19 Kim http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/fbcheese.html
01:20 Kim From Australia, probably the best Cohen tribute band out there right now.
01:20 Kim Some of their singers are now in Leonard’s band.
01:20 Kim So good linkage between tour and out event.
01:21 Kim Ngaiire and Abby Dobson will be the 2 guest singers. They are the show-stoppers!
01:22 Kim So they will perform on the Saturday taking an hour out of what had been open mic time, Lila felt the time allotted to open mic was too long.
01:22 Kim Good picture on Jarkko’s site - link above. Here is the text from their CD promo:
01:23 Kim Triple ARIA Award Winning MONSIEUR CAMEMBERT’s long awaited Leonard Cohen
Show double CD set. Featuring special guest singers Abby Dobson, Ngaiire, Carla Werner & Elana Stone. “If you like Leonard Cohen
, you ought hear Monsieur Camembert’s Famous Blue Cheese. You more especially ought hear it if you dislike Leonard Cohen
: here’s your cure for received notions/ nonsense about Cohen as a byword for gloom!
01:23 Kim http://www.play4me.com.au/product/famous_blue_cheese_leonard_cohen_show_1552055_139435.html
01:24 Kim Carla Werner is the singer from the band who is now joining Leonard’s tour band.
01:26 Kim Our media launch for April 8th is shaping up very well. Ann Vriend will be performing and Larisa will have her Dance Me art there etc.
01:28 Kim Will be at Citadel Theatre Rice Lobby, the same space we are turning into Leonard Cohen cafe for July. Will promote internationally so not just focusing on North America media. Press releases etc. already in good shape. PR folks are writing speaking notes for me which is fun, I may stray from the notes a bit…! Lol!
01:30 Kim Here is the text of the media release: The 2008 Leonard Cohen International Festival
01:31 Kim Text of media release: Celebrate the world-renowned genius of Leonard Cohen in several days’ worth of music, art and film. From July 23rd to 28th, the 2008 Leonard Cohen International Festival (LCIF), organized by Edmonton’s Cohenites Arts Society and the Leonard Cohen Files, brings singers, songwriters, film-makers, dancers, visual artists and hundreds of Cohen fans from around the globe to Edmonton.
01:31 Kim Central to this bi-annual gathering is the Festival’s gala concert Saturday, July 26th at the Winspear Centre (4 Sir Winston Churchill Square) in a tribute to Cohen. The concert includes performances by recording artists Jann Arden, Serena Ryder, Darrell Scott, Tom Rush, Peter Elkas, Roddy Hart
, Kate Hammet-Vaughan and the Festival’s house band, led by Mike Lent and featuring Teddy Borowiecke; as well as readings by Edmonton authors Todd Babiak and Ted Bishop.
01:32 Kim Peter Elkas, Roddy Hart, Tom Rush and host Darrel Scott perform their original material, with a few Cohen tunes along the way, in an intimate singer-songwriter concert-in-the-round at the Masonic Hall (10318 100 Avenue) Friday, July 25 at 8pm.
01:32 Kim Dance MeŠ, a multimedia art collaboration between local artist Larisa Sembaliuk-Cheladyn and the dance department at Victoria School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Sembaliuk-Cheladyn has created 15 new paintings inspired by Cohen’s poems and songs, capturing the process on video, later setting the digitally-edited images to Cohen’s music. These images and music provide the backdrop for a dance interpretation choreographed and performed by teachers, students and alumni from Victoria School. Dance MeŠ runs at the Citadel’s Rice Theatre (9828 101A Avenue) at 7pm July 23 & 24.
01:32 Kim Documentaries about Cohen, as well as a number of music videos by artists who have recorded his songs, ranging from Jeff Buckly to Jennifer Warnes, run at the Stanley A. Milner Library Theatre (7 Sir Winston Churchill Square) from 5pm to 7pm July 24. Open-mike sessions, poetry readings, walking tours, academic presentations and dance parties also run throughout the festival.
01:33 Kim The first international Leonard Cohen Event took place in Montreal in 2000. Since then, Hydra, Greece (2002), New York City (2004) and Berlin (2006) have hosted thousands of Cohen fans from North America, Europe and Asia.
01:33 Kim Edmonton’s Cohenites Arts Society, a not-for-profit organization, began producing the annual Leonard Cohen Festival locally in 2002. In the six years since the original music-based festival, the event has expanded to include visual-art displays, open-mike events and academic talks on a variety of Cohen-related subjects.
01:33 Kim The Leonard Cohen International Festival runs at various Edmonton venues July 23 to 28. Tickets for the July 26 Winspear gala concert range from $70 to $95, and are available at the Winspear Box Office, call (780) 428-1414 or visit www.winspearcentre.com. For more information about other LCIF events and ticketing, please visit www.cohenites.blogspot.com.
